Rain is lashing Tokyo and dozens of flights were canceled as a storm heads towards the Japanese capital.
Hurricane Shanshan is packing most sustained winds of 125 kilometers (78 miles) consistent with hour and gusts of as much as 180 kph (112 mph). It is about 260 kilometers (160 miles) southeast of Tokyo on Wednesday afternoon.
The brunt of the hurricane is forecast to hit Tokyo and surrounding spaces in a single day sooner than transferring up the Pacific coast to northeastern Japan on Thursday. It is not transparent whether or not the storm will make landfall or stay offshore.
In keeping with Jap broadcaster NHK, greater than 130 flights out and in of Tokyo’s two major airports were canceled.
